Sync or Swim Shines at FGPC Super Sprints in Victoria
The Ladysmith Dragon Boat Society's (LDBS) "Sync or Swim" women's team made their debut at the Fairway Gorge Paddling Club (FGPC) Super Sprints this past Sunday, May 26, 2024. The cool, rainy weather couldn't dampen the spirits or the performance of this dedicated team, who clinched a gold medal in the women's 'A' division final.
Competing against 18 women's teams from across the island, the "Sync or Swim" showcased their skill and determination in each 200-metre sprint. Their times started with 1:06.942 in the heats, 1:07.876 in the semi-finals, and finishing the day off with 1:03.108 in the 'A' final, securing their first place finish.
The success of the "Sync or Swim" team is a testament to their hard work, passion, and the expert guidance of their coach, Lesley Lambert, and Steer, Vince Lambert. Their leadership and the team's dedication to the sport were key factors in their outstanding performance at this season opener.
The FGPC Super Sprints is the first festival of the season, known for its fast-paced 200-metre races. This year’s event was a record-breaker, with over 1,000 paddlers participating, surpassing pre-COVID attendance numbers. The festival's vibrant atmosphere and competitive spirit make it an excellent platform for teams to showcase their early-season training.
A huge shout out and thank you to FGPC for a fun, well-organized event. We look forward to returning!
