Sync or Swim Accepts West Coast Warriors Cold Plunge Challenge
For some odd reason, on New Year's Day, thousands of Canadians decided to plunge into nearby bodies of ice-cold water as a way to kick off a new year. Amongst those plunging were members of the Port Hardy West Coast Warriors dragon boat team. Upon completion of their plunge, they decided to issue an official challenge to Ladysmith’s Sync or Swim race team.
“We just finished a team cold plunge and officially challenge you to do the same, Ladysmith!”
The team obviously couldn’t say no to a challenge. And this wasn’t their first cold dip! Just last fall, as a way to wrap up the paddling season, the team plunged into the Ladysmith Harbour. But it wasn’t quite as cold.
The following Saturday, January 6, after morning practice, brave, yet crazy members of Sync or Swim headed to Transfer Beach and changed from multi-layers of paddling clothing to swim gear and team jerseys. The sun was shining, but the air temperature was a brisk three degrees and the water was, well, cold. Really, really, cold.
The camaraderie was strong as the team plunged into the icy waters amongst some shrieking and laughter. The challenge was completed!
Thank you to the West Coast Warriors for challenging Sync or Swim and getting us out of our comfort zone. We’ve officially passed the challenge on to Campbell River’s, River Spirit.
