Witchy Waves: Dragon Boat Society joins Ladysmith Witches Paddle
Today, members from all three teams of the Ladysmith Dragon Boat Society added a touch of enchantment to their usual routine. Dressed in their most wickedly fun witch costumes, they cackled and paddled their way into the Halloween spirit at Transfer Beach in Ladysmith Harbour.
This wasn't just any ordinary paddle. It was the 2023 Witch Paddle, and it brought together a diverse fleet of watercraft, including paddleboards, kayaks and canoes, amounting to about 30 in total.
Costumed witch paddles are a growing trend, especially in waterfront communities like Ladysmith. They add a unique and spirited twist to the traditional paddling experience, giving participants a chance to showcase their creativity and get into the Halloween groove.
With the Ladysmith Dragon Boat Society first in the water, 19 paddlers in full witch regalia joined their fellow watercraft enthusiasts. The sight of the dragon boat amongst the paddleboards, kayaks and canoes gliding along the water created a lively and entertaining spectacle that captivated both participants and onlookers.
As the colourful and spooky procession made its way across the water, it was evident that the Ladysmith Dragon Boat Society's members were committed to not only paddling with skill but also embracing the spirit of the season with style.
